In June I took a trip to Pigeon Forge TN and I saw the violin that was on the Titanic. It's in a special violin exhibit until August at the Titanic museum. Highly recommended! Here is my experience.
I've been experimenting with combining media, outsourcing, and looking for new ways to introduce music. That's because I'm going to have some new music soon! I went back to my Harp and Shamrock CD and remembered this tune. It seems funny to say this now, but at the time we recorded it, I thought it might be too modern for my audiences....
and I think it goes beautifully with the city scapes and traffic!

We just had Valentine's Day - the COLDEST one EVER and it's hard to believe it's almost MARCH. For those of you that are not in New York City, it might surprise you to know that "St. Patrick's Day" is at least a month long!
They stagger the parades here (different days in different areas), and the celebrations continue....
This month Vita and I are doing a workshop with string students at the Third Street Music School settlement. We'll be playing some Celtic tunes together (both Irish and Scottish in this case) and working on the rhythmic bowing that is so much a part of dance music. We're looking forward to it!
March will speed by, I'm sure, and then the Scottish start celebrating! Vita and I played for a Robert Burn's dinner event in January and we had the pleasure of going through a lot of nice Scottish tunes, so we'll add these to our shows.
Wishing you a great 2016 - cady
A new tv segment - "A Fiddle Around Town: Athletes, Motivation & Music" is coming to Brooklyn Public Network and Verizon FIOS cable in new york city on October 12th 8:30 pm. (see showdates for detals).
I was so inspired this summer by my musical experiences - Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddle School, Strings without Boundaries run by Julie Lyonn Lieberman and visiting the Oregon Coast, which is one of my favorite places.
When I got back to New York City, I wanted to keep this inspiration, because as we all know, it's easy to be inspired when you're doing things you love, and much more difficult to keep that motivation when the daily grind sets in.
One lifechange I've made over the last few years is a commitment to fitness, and I love it. It helps with stress, it helps with setting the tone for a productive day, and it's just fun. Changing a habit can be tricky and I had a lot of help and inspiration from many people.
I wanted this next tv episode to be about the different exercise journeys, motivation and steps we can all take. I interviewed Tonya Benham, who inspired me because she went from running 20 minutes a day to running the NYC marathon. The best part is she really delves into HOW she did it.
I also interviewed my trainer, Jarenn Stewart (Supermeperformance.com) who has helped me to set habits that will be lifelong.
Lesley Gonzalez is my co-host for this shoot, and she is one of my BRIC friends that continues to support and inspire me to do my own thing.
So I hope you can watch it. I will put it on my youtube on October 12th as well. www.youtube.com/cadyfinlayson

Before that, Vita and I will be doing a program at the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum, which is actually in New York City (Tuesday June 24th). It's a lovely museum, worth the trip even without the music.

The weekend was a great success. Hosted by the Police Pipes and Drums of Bergen County, their 20th Anniversary Celebration included bands from Chicago, Cleveland, NYPD, NJ and more. Plus the Gibson bus was there for tours.
Photos and videos to be posted shortly.
We had a wonderful time in Raleigh North Carolina and will post videos and photos soon. Our concert audience was very welcoming, and we loved the southern hospitality. Highlights for me were playing with two colleagues that I haven't seen for a long time,
1.-Clifford Badgely, the music director of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church who is a great pianist (one of the tunes we played was Coilsfield House, a beautiful Scottish air, that was a highlight).
2. My good friend, and co-producer on my fiddle cds - Jim Roberts, surprised me by showing up at the concert, and best of all he brought his drum. The videos will be ready soon. It was a night to remember.
Besides the concert, Vita and I experienced a fantastic dinner made by our new friend Marsha, who was practicing for her finals at Culinary school. We think we should show up the week before every final!
This week is the Pipe band 20th Anniversary (Police Pipes and Drums of Bergen County). We're doing a concert, plus there are all sorts of events. bergen2012.com
